The Lee Family
Wiley Franklin (W.F.) Lee (1878-1933) purchased the Beavers house from Ruby Beavers Henley @ 1920. W.F. married Sally Guined, and they had ten children: Dewey, James, Daniel, William, Bertha, Ruby, Lucy, Clarence, Sallie, Wiley F. W.F. owned a 16-horse farm, hiring a number of workers who resided in tenant houses located on the farm. Not only did he farm the surrounding land, but he farmed land located on Sweetwater Creek in Austell. At his death in 1933, his wife inherited the house and 43 acres and each of his children inherited 23 acres. William Hollis Lee, (1904-1959), one of W.F.’s sons, bought the Beavers house from his mother and continued to farm the land. He married Sarah Ellen Hammett (1907-1994), and they had eight children, five of whom were born in the house: William Hollis Jr., Sarah Ethel, Robert Edward, Betty Jane, Patricia Joan, Sylvia Irene, Dorothy May, and Mary Lynn. After William’s death in 1959, Sarah Ellen continued to live and farm on the property until @ 1970, when she sold the property to an investment group, Randy Seckman & Associates. |
Historical Displays When the City of Chattahoochee Hills acquired the Beavers House in 2017, Laurie Searle created a series of displays to document the history of the home and its surrounding area. Return to the Main Page for the other displays. |
