The Fountain Family
Lance V. Fountain (b. 1936) and his wife Talitha C. (b. 1941), purchased the Beavers house from the Randy Seckman and Associates investment group in 1985, along with 65 acres of nearby land. The couple, having lived in the community for 50 years, desired to build a country home on the acreage and renovate the Beavers house for future use by their five children. Initially Fulton County had been interested in the property, seeing potential for connecting the land along the river to Cochran Mill Park via trails. The County had invested a year working with lawyers, so the investment group was reluctant to sell to the Fountains. Until Lance informed the County there was no directed path to Cochran Mill Park and the property was 10 miles away from the park. The County withdrew its interest and the Fountains soon closed the deal. The extensive renovation project that followed quickly turned into a labor of love. The Fountains kept the character and charm of the historic house, while making modern improvements. When they revealed the finished project at an open house in 1986, it was clear the Fountains had invested in both the past and the future of the Beavers house. |
Historical Displays When the City of Chattahoochee Hills acquired the Beavers House in 2017, Laurie Searle created a series of displays to document the history of the home and its surrounding area. Return to the Main Page for the other displays. |
